Current Leaderboard

Official Rules:

1. Recruitment Phase

A. Contestants sign up online via Google Form.

B. This is an IRL only contest.

C. A Twitter account is necessary to play.

D. Sign-ups begin July 15th, 2022 10am.

E. Sign-ups will be open until we get 128 contestants or at 10am August 12th when the game begins.

2. Individual Phase

A. Contestants are assigned a target at the main contest area Friday August 12, 2022 at 10am. Matchings will also be viewable on the leaderboard.

B. Individual Phase begins on Friday August 12, 2022 at 12pm.

C. When a contestant wants to challenge their target, they will formally initiate the contest by announcing loudly "Octopus!" if during a random encounter. Contestants are encouraged to respectfully DM each other and arrange duels also.

D. The recipient of the contest must respond immediately or forfeit.

E. Recipient then chooses the game to decide the winner: rock paper scissors, Ddakji, staring contest, etc.

F. Winner of the match then moves on to the next round, and is notified of their next target via Twitter and leaderboard.

G. Winner's must notify the Octopus Master immediately upon winning a match via Twitter.

H. Winners are immune to challenge for 60 mins after a match. If challenged, refer your challenger to the Twitter post declaring your recent victory.

3. Final 8 phase

A. When only 8 contestants remain, the Individual Phase ends.

B. 10am Sunday August 14, 2022, the final 8 contestants will battle for #1 in the main contest area.

C. Games will be chosen by the Octopus Master.

D. The final contestant is crowned the Octopus Champion and receives their prize.

4. Misc

A. Disputes will be settled by the Octopus Master and decisions are final.

B. Contests must refrain from physical contact.

C. Contests requires consent from both parties.

D. Contest must happen in public DEF CON designated areas and not during talks/workshops/etc.

E. If a contestant is unable to participate in a contest they may request an exemption from the Octopus Master, but only extraordinary situations will be approved.

F. Participation in Octopus Game is voluntary and neither the organizers, Octopus Master, or DEF CON staff assume any liability.

G. Stalking, creepy or inappropriate behavior, or any violation to the DEF CON CoC are grounds for immediate removal from Octopus Game.

H. If you do not initiate or respond to a challenge(or do not respond to organizers) within an 8 hour period, you will be eliminated.
